yes, the icon display is a known issue on Snow Leopard

Numerous places are affected. We have reported the bug to Apple but they do not have a fix for 10.6. We're working with them to get it addressed in 10.6.1. Sorry, for the time being you just need to "know" where those twisties are for the time being.
